I said this in the introduction to this challenge / Journey, but it bears repeating:

Choose one thing from the list. You are welcome to do more if you like; but this is not intended to burden your time, and resources.  Each week we will offer a new list with steps in 1-8 categories.  Some steps could apply to more than one area. Do that which will benefit your household best. If you do anything at all, you will be better off for it.

Happy prepping!

Food:

8 cans of tuna or other meat ( such as chicken, roast beef, etc.)  Check your bulk stores i.e. Costco or Sam’s, they often have better prices than your grocery store.

OR

5lbs. of flour & 2 containers of salt

Household:

8 rolls of toilet paper

72 hour kit:

A backpack or small wheeled suitcase for each person to use as a 72 hour kit

Emergency $

Put away $1 for an emergency in each 72 hour kit

Family Prep

Store water for 3 days (72 hours) for each person in the family.  Recommended is 1 gallon of water per person per day.  So for a family of four, that is 4 gallons ( 1 per person) times 3 days.  4 x 3= 12  The family would need 12 gallons.

OR

Store water for 2 weeks for each person in the family. Recommended is 1 gallon of water per person per day.  So for a family of four, that is 4 gallons (1 per person) times 14 days.  4 x 14 = 56  The family would need 56 gallons.  This would be a good challenge for households that already have the 3 day supply established.

Note: consider adding water to account for any pets in the home.  Your hamster won’t use a gallon a day, but store some for your critters.

*Food is personal and people have different dietary needs/restrictions and tastes.  For example, my household has medical restrictions on sodium, potassium, and high phosphorus foods.  We are also advised to eat fresh as much as possible.  However, there are lower sodium options in some canned foods so I am mindful of that. As we look at protein sources as some of them are more appropriate for our particular diet than are others.  As Always, You know your household’s needs best.  Modify to suit your needs.
